The VR-038 Light Cyclone was a mass produced transformable Veritech motorcycle used by the Robotech Expeditionary Force (REF), and was featured in Robotech: The New Generation. It was often used either as part of a planetary invasion forces or as an emergency vehicle for downed mecha and veritech pilots. Many Cyclone units were salvaged following the many failed attempts by the REF to reclaim earth from the Invid during theThird Robotech War, to be used by local resistance forces. The most well known of these units was used by Rook Bartley during the Third Robotech War.
The Cyclone was a tough, durable piece of hardware that maximizes the versatility, survivability, and lethality of an individual soldier. The weapons systems are modular, accurate, and flexible, and the motorcycle mode is unmatched in its role. In all, one can expect to see more mecha of this scale in the future.
Technology and Combat CharacteristicsEdit
the VR-038 was often referred to as a Light Combat Unit. The "38 Lite", as it was often called by Bio-engineers, was a lighter version of its predecessor. It was designed specifically to accommodate the many valiant female soldiers in the Robotech Expeditionary Force (REF). The Light Combat Cyclone was less heavily armoured and does not come equipped with any type of missile system. However, the Light Combat Cyclone was even more manoeuvrable than the other cyclones. To compensate for its lack of built-in armaments, the 38-Lite comes equipped with the RL-6 Heavy Rocket Cannon, a sort of high-tech, multi-round bazooka. The weapon is hand-held and can be fired in the cyclone armour, or without the armor as a shoulder supported weapon like a LAW rocket launcher. Most cyclone designed weapon accessories are too heavy or awkward to be used without the cyclone armour
The armor of the Cyclone was composed of an advanced titanium-steel alloy. The armor stopped all small arms fire, provides fair protection against heavier infantry weapons, such as a 12.7mm machinegun round, and poor resistance to light mecha-mounted weaponry, such as the Zentraedi 22.3mm HE autocannon round (though the pilot will be badly concussed).
Field tests show that a Cyclone can sometimes withstand two or more blasts from Invid plasma guns. Vulnerable areas of the pilot are part of the upper arms, which are unarmored. The thighs and helmet were not protected by the Cyclone, but were covered by the CVR armor. Nuclear, biological, and chemical protection is limited to that provided by the CVR armor.
